This was a historic moment as the MAT is the first graduate level degree program in the over 100-year history of Louisiana College.
Entry requirements:
• Hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university
or college
• A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
• A valid teaching certificate
• GRE formula score > 1000 (Undergraduate GPA x 75) + (GRE Verbal + GRE Quantitative)
• Currently teaching in a K-12 school (If not currently
employed, participant may request provisional admission. Employment is required for fall and spring semesters.)
• Submission of MAT application and all required documents
Graduation Requirements:
• Completed coursework (33 hours) with an overall 3.0 GPA or higher
• No more than 12 hours of coursework with a grade of C
• No grades of D or F
How long does it take to complete the requirements of the MAT degree?
A minimum of 3 semesters.
What is the difference between a Master of Arts in Teaching degree and a Master of Education degree?
A Master of Education degree, or M. Ed, is a graduate level degree that is typically sought by candidates that would like to seek administrative level positions or other specialized roles. Typically, a Master of Education degree classes are geared toward educational leadership.
A Master of Arts in Teaching degree, or an MAT degree is deeply rooted in “best practices” for the classroom with an emphasis in instructional technique and application of teacher research for student academic growth. It is truly a “teaching degree.” Most teachers that pursue an MAT degree choose to continue in the classroom, although this degree could serve as the foundation for building an add-on certification in educational leadership such as principalship or supervision.
Whether a teacher desires to remain in the classroom, to move to administration, or to branch out into educational research, a higher degree is one of the premiere ways to facilitate career advancement.

TEACH Spring Semester

TEACH classes will begin the new year, Saturday, January 23 at 8:30. Please be in place with the professor you were assigned last semester. If there has been a change in your placement, please see Dr. Shamblin, Mrs. Willie, or Ms. Johnson. Remember that this site was created to be an alternative site for important information regarding classes if they should be canceled due to inclement weather. Please check this site before attempting to call our offices, due to the number of calls that come in when weather is in question. The decision to cancel class is made by the Academic Vice-President.
